Buyer

Location: Head Office (Ipswich)

We have an opportunity for an experienced Buyer to join our team based at our head office in Ipswich.

This position will be Monday to Friday and we also offer hybrid working.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and co-ordinate materials procurement within the designated areas, frameworks and supply agreements
  • Identifying potential suppliers and new products
  • Contacting a range of suppliers and sub-contractors to obtain quotations and agree delivery times
  • Keeping detailed records and maintaining a well organised work schedule
  • Assessing sub-contractors and suppliers
  • Dealing effectively with challenges with suppliers and the flow of materials
  • Ensuring all work complies with quality, safety and environmental policies and the requirements of the company procedures
  • Negotiating and agreeing the most favourable terms with suppliers
  • Providing advice to the project estimator on the predicted cost of individual items
  • Liaising closely with the estimator at the tendering stage to ensure that an accurate project cost is provided
  • Assess and advise on commercial risk
  • Preparing and maintaining cost reports in order to maximise efficiency within the business

Skills Required

We’re after a proactive problem solver, a confident communicator with strong negotiating skills and a team player, someone who can prioritise tasks and manage their time to meet deadlines.

The successful candidate will be able to build good relationships, be well organised and self-motivated. They will have previous experience of buying, preferably within the construction industry. A CIPS qualification would also be an advantage but is not essential. Due to the nature of the role a full UK driving license is essential.
