This critical construction scheme to stabilise cliffs on the Essex coast saw the Jackson team bring considerable social value to the project by working with the local community on a number of public initiatives.
Jackson was engaged by Tendring District Council on this £3.9m scheme at Holland-on-Sea near Clacton to provide vital protection to homes and businesses into the future.
The project involved stabilising a 500-metre section of the coastal slope using a specialist drainage system. A new accessible ramp was also constructed, improving access from the top of the cliff down to the beaches, which had also been recently created in a £35m coastal defence scheme to protect the seafront from coastal erosion.

The Jackson team was also recognised by the Considerate Constructors Scheme for its high quality community engagement and awarded a ‘Beyond Compliance’ certificate for going above and beyond the call of duty.
Initiatives included working with children at Holland Haven Primary School to produce artwork for the site compound fencing and sponsoring the Holland-on-Sea Christmas Tree for 2018. To enable construction the team temporarily removed and stored 80 beach huts with the support from owners, employing a local carpenter to make repairs to huts before relocation.
The huts have since been returned to the promenade and are now situated on a new, hard standing concrete base to increase their lifespan.
Finished in time for the popular 2019 Clacton Airshow, this scheme was essential to stabilise the slopes and reduce movement, preventing the decline and collapse of the cliffs.
It also gave the opportunity to improve access to the new beaches for all, meaning everyone could enjoy them and get maximum benefit from the seafront.
